Amazing work! I wrote a very short review on Kludget Engine at http://pozitifpc.com (I’m afraid its in Turkish!) since I dont know the internals and.. I’m a (very very) newbie javascript coder!
Since it relies on Qt libs, do you plan to release Linux & Mac OS versions as well?
Linux – yes, one of the many reason of using Qt libs is portability. Probably sooner if somebody volunteers to help.
MacOS, probably when or if I get a macbook. or when somebody volunteers too.
I loved this Dashboard! Thank you very much! But i have a problem, i can’t run internet widgets… How can i do it? Like on the screen shot, it’s running iStat, i can’t run it…
I installed it on XP Pro SP3 ran some of the default widgets closed them tried a few dashboard widgets no go. Then tried default widgets again and they never appeared. closed the application and started it again same thing no default widgets will run now. Uninstalled and re-installed same situation. I was very interested in this app do you have any ideas why they fail to load now?
please try to uninstall the widgets by selecting the menu kludgets menu > add widget > clear list
you can also manually unintstall the widgets by deleting c:\documents and settings\{username}\local settings\application data\mindhyve\kludgets

Ok I did that but I can still not get them to start again.
Hi, the widgets are running fine on windows and linux version but i have the problem that the used Ubuntu 9.0.4 webkit/GTK+ version does not render transparent (so do i have to modify this myself or do you link your own webkit version ?) and on windows i have the problem i cannot move the widgets although they render very well in XP-SP3 on VMWare (Fusion on Mac OS X Leopard). Any simple things i might do wrong here ? As noone else seem to have this problem i might need to compile myself (but i would need to setup the complex toolchain first and prefer to build a Mac OS X or Linux version based on Qt 4.5). Any ideas ?
#1 The linux version … is compiled and statically linked with a patched QtWebkit.
#2 On Windows … that was a bug please download the latest 0.9.20090622 . i think i release versions too often without thorough testing
You can build by dynamically linking with the official QtWebkit release.
But edit this line:
kview.cpp
line 10: #define ENABLE_DASHBOARD_SUPPORT 0
and then you can move widgets by holding the left mouse button + while pressing CTRL
on linux, with Qt4.5, gcc. no complex toolchain.
i just added these packages from Synaptic: qt4.5 dev, gcc.
you can even use qtCreator
regarding the transparency bug. i’m not sure yet. i didn’t have to patch qtwebkit for that.
Tried Kludget and I am very amazed. Just great to use the dsashboard widgets. Just one issue with the program.
When I hit F11 to show the widgets it works well, but if I hit again, they should dissapear, but they don´t.
Is this due to wrong options or is it the program?
By the way, has anyone a link to the original dashboard widgets?

I’ve tried to get the “Festive Lights” Widget for Mac OSX to work for a while now. I’m using Kludgets 0.9.1, Linux on Ubuntu 9.04. I really love this widget and I’m craving to get it working, but for some reason the widget does not appear when I install and try to open it. Other widgets worked great. So I’m wondering if a port is possible, or if any new technology (code-wise) is needed before this widget will work. Finally, what programming language does the Kludget Engine use?
Thank you for your time.

@kludgeteer
Just as an additional note, I have filed a bug report previously. It has more information about the problem, including a screenshot. I hope you find it useful.
The website below has more lightsets that I would like to use when this widget is working. I’m thinking that if the main widget is fully functional then these themes can be installed easily as well… please let me know if this is not the case.
hi, tried to run kludget but i got this popup window which says “kludgets failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. please see the app event log for detail”.
please advise. thanks.

Hi, nice & usefull tool!
I was disappointed a little bit when returning to the desktop from another program by use of “Win+D” keys first – because the desktop was “naked” without the widgets.
But the “Win+M” keys seems to solve this.
hi
in both 0.9.7 and 0.9.8 i was unable to run some default OSX widgets properly.
I run windows 7 x64 and tested:
ical – fail (buggy, only shows the day tab, others are blank)
dictionary translation, world clock, unit converter and stocks can’t connect to internet
what am I doing wrong?
thx!

some dashboard widgets use plugins that work only on MacOs. the iStat screenshot uses an experimental port of it’s plugin.
I’ll post the plugin soon.

@Christian Wolf
i remember. i did this for windows:
void QWebView::setPage(QWebPage *page)
{
//setAttribute(Qt::WA_OpaquePaintEvent, d->page);
}
commented that out. i didn’t have to that though for the linux build

Hi guys,
seems to be a nice Engine, but can anyone tell me, how I can run Yahoo Wigets with Kludget?
Thanks

I am amazed, this is incredible. The majority of my Mac Widgets work on here.
I would love the problem of the widgets not being hidden fixed, Is there any news on this?

some OSX widget wouldn’t work as they need native MACOSX plugins or applications.
ical widget would need the ICal application for example.
